ABOUT THE TEACHER:

After decades of professional experience composing, conducting, performing, and teaching music, Mario J. Pelusi, Ph.D. is now sharing his knowledge and experience with those who, for whatever reasons, are unable to, or who do not wish to, enroll in traditional music programs.  If you are interested in learning how to compose music and in studying a variety of other subjects related to composing and are age 16 or older, then Dr. Pelusi can help you attain your educational and professional goals.

Until two years ago, Dr. Pelusi's teaching occurred primarily in schools of music and departments of music in the United States.  While he is still a professor of composition and theory at a professional school of music, he now teaches privately a limited number of students in the U.S. and abroad via the Internet through Skype (in different time zones).  Typically, lessons are 60 minutes and are taught weekly.

"Throughout my education in music, I was very fortunate to have had extraordinary teachers.  At this time in my career, I would like to share with others what I learned about music from my own teachers and from my own experiences.  In other words, I would like to 'pay it forward'."

"I know that there are many questions that arise about the nature of music and about careers in music, which is why I wanted to create the kind of opportunity that I wish had been available to me when I first began to think about a career in music."

"I am particularly interested in teaching students who have a passion for music, who are willing to work hard, and who, for any number of reasons, might not be able to, or who choose not to, study music in a traditional music program, or who are enrolled in traditional music programs but who wish to supplement their studies and/or who need assistance with their studies.  I am also interested in teaching working professionals who might like instruction on a familiar subject or on an entirely new subject."

Mario J. Pelusi

“The Fifth House Ensemble had the pleasure of working with Mario Pelusi as a conductor on the premiere of his Concertante for 10 Instruments. It’s a complex, challenging work. His impeccably precise leadership in rehearsals, immediate rapport with the musicians, and infectious sense of humor made the process a joy. We continue to use the way he engaged with our group in preparing this piece as an example for emerging composers we work with to this day. His ability to explain the motivation behind his musical choices, and to demonstrate even the most intricate figures in the score went a long way toward making the premiere such a success.”
